Floating market trips are generally first items of every tourist’s must see places in Bangkok. But, be careful, there are four floating markets near Bangkok.

Damnoen Saduak Floating Market

This floating market, which is about 1-1.5 hours from Bangkok, is the most popular tourist attraction. The floating market is incredibly crowded and lively. There are also many souvenir gifts you can find in the night markets. Also, you have the chance to see all of the Thai-style fruit and food together.

Amphawa Floating Market

It is a small village with an impression from the 7th century. Bangkok’s second most popular floating market is 50 km away. Damnoen Saduak is not as big an area but a much more authentic market.

  • The prices of seafood are very reasonable. 5 large lobster about 300 baht. As you can get something from the boat on the river’s edge and eat it in the little tables there, you can walk to the bridge and eat in a more relaxed environment. The most popular little walk-in canal is Mae Khlong river, where you can eat a restorante meal. The market is a much more enjoyable week.

If you think you have visited enough in the bazaar, you can visit the canals with a boat. As you can do 50 baht per person, you can pay 500 Baht and have it on a special boat. Do not forget that the 50 baht tours are not up until the boat is full, you have to wait.

Taling Chan Floating Market

floating market bangkokIt is not possible to find it in tourist maps and books in this floating market, just a few kilometers outside of Bangkok. This small and intimate floating market is a great choice to spend half your day. It is a market place where you can find great seafoods, you can be with the locals, you can visit 100 baht channels and you can make foot massage under 200 baht.

The entrance to the floating market may not look very nice to you, the green plastic roofs, the grasses, etc. But the original market place at the back is absolutely visible and must be thrown from the wonderful fruit and food. After the little bridge, you will find the unbearable smell and beauty of giant lobsters, blue crabs and shrimps. You can eat them at very affordable prices in small local fairy tables.

It’s really hard to find a place after 11 o’clock. Of course there are also restaurants with plastic chairs. But at the edge of the recommended canal, you can eat and watch hundreds of great “catfish” in the water at the authentic music festival played by local musicians.

Renting a boat after dinner and visiting the surrounding canals is a great opportunity to see real life. According to many travelers, it is the most favorite bazaar in terms of time usage due to its nice food and proximity.

Khlong Lat Mayom Floating Market

A floating market that is around 20 km from Bangkok.  Use BTS. The name “Wongwian Yai” is the last stop to go with BTS like Taling Chan for transportation. After that you have to go by taxi.

A very small and narrow channel can enter very few boats. There are totally local foods. You can eat on seats about 10 cm high and wooden tables. Even if you do not know your name, you are recommended to eat a few foods you see around. It is the least tursitic and the most authentic market. If you want to spend a few hours here, you can also go to Taling Chan, a few kilometers away.
